Hi, nice to meet you. Potterings is a series of affordable workshops, classes, and open studio sessions that focus on hand-building pottery techniques. Note: Potterings does not teach wheel classes. During each workshop or class, you will learn hand-building techniques ranging from slab rolling, joining, smoothing, glazing, and design. Unique to Potterings is your choice of coming back during a glazing open studio to hand-glaze your own creations. Potterings can also glaze your pieces. It’s another opportunity to enjoy learning about pottery.
What to Expect?
To have fun: At each Pottering workshop or series of classes, you will learn to make one to three pottery items that are achievable for beginner potters.
Each participant will be led through the instructions as we build the items out of clay. You will be provided with tools, clay, building boards, turntables, and glazes.
What About Refunds?
Things happen: You can request a refund 8 days before your class. After 8 days, refunds are no longer available, but you can transfer your spot to another person. Please email us your name, workshop date, and class title, and we’ll be happy to switcharoo for you.
Where are You Located?
Potterings workshops, classes, and open studio sessions are offered in the Potterings studio, located at 3400 Harbor Ave SW, #132 (on the east side of the building), Activspace, Alki Beach, West Seattle. Look for the distinctive Potterings flag.
When Can I Pick Up My Piece?
Ready in 4-5 weeks: You will pick up your finished pieces in 4-5 weeks after the class.
Once you have made a piece of pottery, we dry it for at least 10 days. The piece is then bisque-fired. Once the piece is out of the bisque fire, you have the option of glazing it yourself (included in the price of the class/workshop/open studio). Or, we will glaze the piece for you. You can choose the glaze.
What is the Cost?
We keep things affordable: Potterings keeps the fees simple. For in-studio workshops, we charge an affordable $50 to $55 per potter, per class for a 3 to 3.5 hour class.
Our multi-date classes are priced at $80 for 2 classes.
Open studio time is priced at $45 for two hours, including instruction, materials, and kiln firing.
Check out the calendar for the schedule.
