Discover the Joy of Pottery: Why Open Studio Nights Are Perfect for Beginners

Life gets busy. Between work, family, and everything in between, it’s easy to put creativity on the back burner. But what if you could carve out just two hours a week to reconnect with your artistic side— for the love of just pure creative joy? That’s exactly what our Open Studio Nights at Potterings are all about!

Every Wednesday from 6 PM to 8 PM, our cozy, well-stocked pottery studio in West Seattle transforms into an open creative space where you can explore, experiment, and unwind. Whether you’re new to pottery or looking to refine your skills, this is your time to play with clay, try new techniques, and enjoy the process—without worrying about making it “perfect.” And the best part? You’ll have an experienced teacher on-hand to answer questions. Every month we highlight a seasonal item to build together, some examples: flower luminary, pinch mug, herb bowl & spoon, spiral candle holder, plus many more. You’ll learn different techniques while building your pottery collection.

Why You’ll Love Open Studio Nights

  1. A Stress-Free Space to Create
Pottery is hands-on, messy, and wonderfully meditative. There’s something incredibly satisfying about shaping clay with your hands, watching it take form, and knowing you made something from scratch. Open Studio gives you the freedom to create without the structure of a class, so you can work on personal projects, practice techniques, or just enjoy the process with no agenda.
  2. Expert Support When You Need It
We have an experienced instructor available to answer questions, offer tips, and help you troubleshoot your pottery projects. Whether you need a little guidance on handbuilding or some advice on glazing, you’ll always have someone there to help you feel confident and excited about your work.
  3. A Creative Reset Just for You
This is your chance to do something just for yourself. Pottery is an amazing way to slow down, get out of your head, and enjoy the present moment. Plus, nothing beats that feeling of bringing home a finished piece that you made with your own two hands!
  4. Bring a Friend & Make It a Creative Date
Not ready to go solo? Grab a friend and make Open Studio your new weekly creative date. There’s something extra special about sharing the joy (and laughter!) of pottery with someone you love. You’ll both leave with memories, stories, and handmade keepsakes to treasure.
